Small Suited Connectors

[A shark and a fish: my poker tips for amateurs] As you might realize from the above, with small suited connectors you are essentially trying to see flops very cheaply and making a big hand or flopping a big draw in position over as many other players as possible. In this situation you usually have some very good implied odds to win a big pot from other players when you hit the flop hard and you can usually get away from your hand without further investment when you miss.

Branching Out: A Beginner’s Guide to Omaha

[Poker News Daily] In the event of a tie for the Lo, then the Lo half of the pot is split in two (meaning that each winner of the Lo will be receiving ¼ of the original pot or half of half.) If there is no Lo hand possible (like on a board that reads K K Q 9 2 no one can make a Lo hand as no one can play five cards all 8 or lower simultaneously) then the whole pot goes to the winner of the Hi hand. You can win both the Lo and Hi hands as you are allowed to play in both at the same time with 2 different combinations of your hole cards ,so for example if you are holding A 2 K K and the board reads K K 3 4 5 you would have both quad Kings and the nut Lo at A 2 3 4 5 - you would win both halves of the pot, which is called “scooping the pot.” Let’s take a look at hand strength:

Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Strategy. Pre-Flop Play

[Omaha Poker Tactics And Strategies] Remember that hands like 3-4-5-6, 4-5-6-7, 5-6-7-8 and 6-7-8-9 always have a negative expected value. You have no chance to win necessary number of times with the low hand and little chance to make the nut straight.

Vegas: Back on track

[Cole's Poker Blog] I buy in 200 at 1/2NL and after picking up a few small pots I quickly win a good sized pot.  Its raised preflop and called a bunch of ways so I call with A7 of spades.  The flop is Q94 with two spades giving me the nut flush draw.  Checks to the preflop raiser and he bets 40, the button calls and I call.  The preflop raiser is pretty short so it was questionable but the button and me both have some chips behind to make it worthwhile.  The turn comes out BAM!  ACE!  I don’t really know if that’s a good card or not.  I check, the preflop raiser just moves it all in for like 75 and to my surprise the button calls.  I contemplate my options and just call again like a station.  River is an offsuit 2 and I check to see what button does, button checks.  I roll my A7 and take it all down.  I might have missed some value by not building a sidepot and playing this like a nit.  Oh well ship it holla.

Q&A #111: Committment With Tournament Stack Sizes

[Noted Poker Authority] Any time you open a pot preflop, you should always check out the big blind. Is the blind tight or loose? What are the stacks? In this case, the preflop raiser can see that the big blind’s stack is tiny. If the big blind chooses to ...

From $2 to $10K, Day 2

[Random Shuffle] . Two limped, and the button made the gay raise to $0.04. The small blind folded. It was an easy call for me and the two limpers.

West Coast Bias: A state of mind

[UCLA] •Stanford’s John Elway should have won the 1982 Heisman instead of Georgia’s Herschel Walker. Just because you crouched up and gave the 1980 Heisman to South Carolina’s George Rogers instead of a more deserving Walker because the Bulldog tailback was just a freshman doesn’t mean you get a do-over two years later.

Concentrating On Texas Holdem

[Texas Hold em Poker Guide] Before the players receive their cards two of them place blind bets, after which the rest of the players ante based on what two cards they were dealt. After all the players have decided if they are going to stay in the game, the dealer then puts out three face up cards called the flop.

I never thought I'd lay down the wheel in a hi/lo split game, but...

[Luvin Poker] As fate would have it, the original bettor and the original raiser both called, so all three hands were turned up. Original bettor had a Q high flush, no low. Original raiser had flopped a set of 4's ...and the original re-raiser had ...

UFC 88 Breakthrough Prop Betting

[UFC Betting, MMA Sports Betting Information] If you bet this UFC prop bet at 5 Dimes to go all three rounds and the distance the betting adds are Liddell/Evans goes distance +100. If you did a parlay in addition to this bet it would offset the large -255 on the Liddell bet.
