Poker Library > Poker Has Jumped The Shark (again)

http://www.billrini.com [Bill’s Poker Blog] During my little posting hiatus, Wil Wheaton popped me an email regarding a post he did on poker jumping the shark. I sent him a response and he told me I should run with it but, as I said in a previous post, I’ve been a little pre-occupied lately and never got around to it. Well, that ends here!

Being able to pick the minds of some great players will be an amazing opportunity to help improve all of our games and also a chance to ask questions about life as a professional gambler.

[Zbasic.com] The law school dropout's poker blog: Wednesday, December 14th: If you read the comment sections of this blog, you'll see a lot of people asking slightly more specific questions about my table selection, or other specific poker strategies...while I do my best to answer those comments, and the many similar emails I receive, just know that it's not an oversight on my part that I don't get into too much actual strategy advice, but rather a conscious decision I made when starting out that this thing would simply be dreadfully boring if I just filled it with strategy and bad beat posts -- I mean, really, how many ways are there to describe how your top set got rivered by a 2-outer?? There was an only-somewhat tongue-in-cheek article in Cardplayer a few months ago that satirically recommended outlawing any and all bad beat stories, and replacing them only with a single digit from 1 through 10 to describe just how "bad" the beat was -- that way, you could simply go up to your buddy and, when he asks why you look so down, tell him "yeah, I just suffered through a 7, a few 8's, and a 10;

[Cardsquad.com] Poker Jumps the Shark (again) - Card Squad: In fact, it's the main reason poker is so popular right now: anyone who sees the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel or WSOP on ESPN and wants to play a game against a real person can download a client and get into a play money or real money game whenever they want to. Online poker and Chris Moneymaker are the reason the WSOP has exploded so much in the last two years, it takes a tournament area the size of a a football field three days to work through everyone who wants to play in the main event.

[Liquid-swords.com] From Guppy To Shark: I have the option of a live tournament every Wednesday night (around 12 players, usually), I have my monthly Poker Club (around 35-40 players, usually), my boss' monthly dinner party/poker party (around 12 players, usually), a fairly regular Saturday tournament (around 12 players) that I don't usually attend, but could if the desire strikes me, a $50 tournament every two weeks (around 16 players, usually), not to mention the sporadic friendly games we have occassionally. I also have a meeting this weekend with a bar owner who wants to start offering monthly tournaments and is looking to me to help him get it started and probably run the first couple.
