On the flip side, if your 4xBB raise is consistently getting folded around, find a new table!
[Rcheli's Weblog] Evaluating Starting Hands In No-Limit Holdem Tournaments: If you make it 3 times the size of the big blind to go that typically equals an 80% pot bet. This will protect you in case you get re-raised or called by stronger holdings.
[TalkFlop.com Blog] Tournament Report: Bad Plays & Good Plays = Progress: There were 3 limpers in front of me and everything in my mind told me that I should be in there raising, but for some reason I didn’t. Like I said, I just don’t feel ready to play those first couple of hands (which is a HUGE leak that I need to plug). The flop comes out and things don’t get any better:
[Poker-Strategy.org] 7 Card Stud - 5th Street Strategy: The chances that someone else has been dealt a higher hand in the first 5 cards is small. However, I am inclined to bet my 3 of a kind on 5th street, if there are alot of limpers .
[PokerListings.com - Blog] WSOP Event 29: $3000 No-Limit Hold'em Part 1: Flopping a set in this spot can be extremely profitable, especially when your opponent lets you limp in behind him. [Devin Armstrong] "Welcome to hell, sir.": Fair enough, but if the hand had played out like it should have, he would have bet 3K on the flop, and I would have called and hit my flush on the turn. [Wise Hand Poker] Stars And Stripes: Level four started and I won a pot with 77 and know was back up to 4500 chips, I was in the cutoff with 4 limpers and I had 9-10 and called. The flop was 7-8-6 with 2 spades and it checked to me and I put 4300 chips in the middle because I did not want anyone chasing the flush.
[tk's Blog] League Game 4 & Wendover Weekend!: I ship it in on the SB with behind 3 or 4 limpers and was instacalled by one of the EP limpers. Figured I ran into AA/KK but he tabled AKo, dominating my hand regardless.
[Queen of Diamonds] Tournament shoving: Subsequently the flop came as showed in the picture below and the BB made the same bet as preflop and the other players called towards me. I was a little bit confused and doubted whether to raise (to get some info on the BB: did he show weakness because his AK didn’t hit of was he slowplaying his overpair on this harmless flop) or check.
[TK's Blog] Friday March 7, 2008 - WSOP Qualifier: Whether it be you have AA vs someone's KK (and it holds up)or you flop a set on a non dangerous board against someone's AA, or you just plain suckout on someone. Skills play an important role also, mainly making correct decisions and maximizing value when you get into those situations when you have the big hands.
